Sales tax nexus reviewed + registration handled per state — $199/state or $499 for any 3 states

Post-Wayfair (2018), every US state can require out-of-state sellers to collect sales tax once they cross economic nexus thresholds (typically $100K revenue OR 200 transactions/year in the state). E-commerce founders hit thresholds and panic. Marketplace facilitator laws shift some burden to Amazon/Etsy/Shopify, but direct sales + B2B + many service sales still create registration obligations. TaxCloud charges $249/state, Avalara wants a $403/location subscription. We do nexus review + state registration + filing-frequency setup at $199/state, or $499 for 3-state nexus packs.
US e-commerce sellers, SaaS companies, B2B service providers crossing economic nexus thresholds
Your Stripe revenue crossed $100K in a new state and you don't know if that creates nexus
You sell on Amazon FBA and don't know which states FBA inventory creates physical nexus in (it does, in many)
You just expanded to 5 states and need them all registered before your first sale
Avalara wants a $400/month subscription for what should be 5 one-time registrations
| Option | Price | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIY via state DOR website | $0 (state fees apply) | Free | Each state's registration is a different process; hours of admin; easy to misclassify products |
| TaxCloud / Avalara | $249-$403/state | Some include compliance automation | Expensive; subscription model; no CFO-level "should you even register here" advice |
| BlackpeakCFO | $199/state (or $499 for 3) | CGMA nexus review, registration done right, no subscription, advice on which states to actually register | For ongoing monthly filings, use TaxJar/Avalara automation — we don't do monthly filings |

Two types: (1) Physical nexus — inventory in FBA warehouses, employees, offices, contractors. (2) Economic nexus — $100K revenue OR 200 transactions/year (varies by state — some are $250K, some $500K). Our nexus review documents both for your situation.
Historically yes; recent state changes (marketplace facilitator laws) shifted collection responsibility to Amazon for marketplace sales, BUT you may still have a registration filing obligation in some states and you certainly do for direct sales (Shopify, your own site) that ship from those FBA inventory states. We assess state-by-state.
Varies enormously by state. ~20 states tax SaaS (Texas, New York, Massachusetts, Washington, Pennsylvania, etc.). ~30 do not (California, Florida, Illinois). Some states tax cloud computing but exempt SaaS narrowly defined. Our review identifies your taxable footprint.
No — that's automation territory. We route to TaxJar (best for sub-100K transactions/yr) or Avalara (enterprise). We can set up either as part of the registration if desired (+$199 setup).
Where applicable (now 45+ states), the marketplace platform (Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Walmart) collects + remits sales tax on your behalf for marketplace sales. You may still need to register for sales NOT on the marketplace (your own site, B2B direct), and for some states you still file a "marketplace facilitator" return showing the $0 net obligation. We handle this distinction in setup.
