Statutory accounts keep you legal. Management accounts keep you in control.

Most UK business owners only ever see their numbers once a year — in the statutory accounts their accountant files with Companies House, often nine months after the year actually ended. By then the decisions are already made. Management accounts close that gap.

Statutory accounts
  • Once a year, months after the period
  • Fixed legal format
  • For Companies House & HMRC
  • Backward-looking compliance
Management accounts
  • Every month, days after close
  • Built around your decisions
  • For you and your management team
  • Forward-looking, with commentary

What's in your monthly pack

Every report comes with written commentary — what moved, why, and what to do about it.

Profit & loss with commentary

Revenue, gross margin and overheads against budget and prior periods — with a written explanation of every material movement, not just a grid of numbers.

Balance sheet

What the business owns and owes, reconciled to the penny: debtors, creditors, cash, loans, director's loan account and VAT position.

Cash flow statement & forecast

Where cash actually went this month, plus a rolling 13-week forecast so you see a squeeze before it arrives — not after.

KPI dashboard

The five to eight numbers that actually drive your business — margin by line, debtor days, run-rate, utilisation — tracked month on month.

Budget vs actual variance

A clear read on where you are ahead of plan, where you are behind, and which variances are timing versus structural.

Aged debtors & creditors

Who owes you, who you owe, and how overdue — so collections and payments stop being a month-end scramble.

Fixed monthly price
from £295/month

The price is set in advance against your transaction volume, bank accounts and number of entities. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices — you know the cost before you commit. Month-to-month after the first 30 days.

Who this is for

  • UK limited companies past the start-up stage that are steering by bank balance instead of by numbers
  • Owner-managed businesses approaching a funding round, a lending application or a sale, who need credible monthly figures
  • Directors whose accountant only surfaces once a year at year-end
  • Businesses with a bookkeeper for data entry but nobody turning that data into decisions
  • Companies that have outgrown the spreadsheet but are not yet ready for a full-time finance hire

How it works

1

Discovery call

A short call to understand the business, your software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or FreeAgent) and what decisions you need the numbers to support. You get a fixed monthly quote.

2

Onboarding & first pack

We connect to your bookkeeping, agree your KPIs and reporting format, and deliver your first management pack. If the books are behind, we get them current first.

3

Monthly rhythm

Every month, within five to ten working days of close, your full pack lands — with commentary. A monthly review call is included if you want one.

Prepared by a chartered management accountant

Management accounting is the discipline — it is literally what the CGMA designation is for. Every pack is prepared and reviewed by Stuart Wilson, ACMA CGMA, with 24 years in finance — including seven years as Group Finance Director for a portfolio of small and mid-sized businesses in London, plus earlier roles at Arle Capital Partners and Bancroft Private Equity. You are not handed a template export; you are handed analysis from someone who has sat on both sides of the board table.

Management accounts — common questions

What are management accounts?

Management accounts are a monthly (or quarterly) set of financial reports — profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and key performance indicators — produced to help you run the business. Unlike statutory year-end accounts, which exist to satisfy Companies House and HMRC, management accounts exist to inform your decisions while you can still act on them.

How are management accounts different from statutory accounts?

Statutory accounts are a legal filing prepared once a year, months after the period ends, in a fixed format. Management accounts are produced monthly, within days of the month closing, in whatever format is most useful to you — with written commentary explaining what moved and why. One keeps you compliant; the other keeps you informed.

How much do monthly management accounts cost?

Our UK management accounts service starts at £295 per month. The exact price depends on transaction volume, the number of bank accounts and entities, and whether you need a cash flow forecast and KPI dashboard alongside the core pack. It is a fixed monthly fee agreed in advance — no hourly billing and no surprise invoices.

Do I still need a year-end accountant if I have management accounts?

Management accounts and year-end statutory accounts are separate jobs. We can do both — our UK limited company accountant service handles the statutory filing — or we can produce your management accounts and hand a clean, reconciled package to your existing accountant at year end. Good management accounts make the year-end cheaper either way.

How quickly do I get my management accounts each month?

The management pack is delivered within five to ten working days of the month end, once bank feeds and source documents are in. Numbers that arrive six weeks late describe a business that no longer exists — speed is the point.

Who prepares the management accounts?

Every management pack is prepared and reviewed by Stuart Wilson, ACMA CGMA — a chartered management accountant with 24 years in finance, including seven years as Group Finance Director for a portfolio of small and mid-sized businesses in London. No junior associates, no offshore data entry presented as analysis.
