No retainer · ACMA CGMA · Annual (online filing deadline 31 January)

If you are self-employed, a landlord, a company director taking dividends, or you have untaxed income, you file a Self Assessment return by 31 January. Many firms price it as part of a monthly package. I do it as a one-off fixed fee: send your bank statements, invoices, P60s, dividend vouchers and rental statements through the onboarding form, and I prepare and file the SA100 with the self-employment (SA103) and property (SA105) pages, then confirm the tax due or refund expected.

Questions people ask

I have rental income and a sole trade. Can you handle both?

Yes. Both go on the same SA100 return, with the SA103 pages for self-employment and the SA105 pages for property, and £195 covers both. If you have several businesses or properties with separate records, I quote any extra work as a fixed add-on in writing before I start.

Should I be in Making Tax Digital for Income Tax instead?

Only if your combined self-employment and property income is over £50,000 (from April 2026), £30,000 (from April 2027) or £20,000 (from April 2028). Below those thresholds, an annual Self Assessment return is still the right filing. If you are in scope, the MTD for Income Tax service is £495 a year and includes the final declaration. Does income from online marketplaces or short lets need to be declared?

Usually, yes. Online platforms report sellers' income to HMRC, and trading or property income above the £1,000 allowances is taxable. Send the platform statements with your records and I will include what needs to be included.

I am late. Can you still file after 31 January?

Yes, for the same £195. HMRC's penalties are separate: £100 as soon as the return is late, daily penalties after three months, and further penalties at six and twelve months, plus interest on tax paid late. The sooner it is filed, the less it costs. Source: gov.uk, Self Assessment tax returns: penalties.

What do you need from me?

Bank statements for the year, sales invoices or a summary of income, receipts or a summary of expenses, P60 or P45 if employed, dividend vouchers if you are a director, rental statements if you let property, and your Unique Taxpayer Reference. The onboarding form lists them and you upload them once.
