No retainer · ACMA CGMA · Annual: accounts due 9 months after the year end, CT600 12 months after

Every UK limited company files annual accounts with Companies House and a Corporation Tax return (CT600) with HMRC. For financial years beginning on or after 6 April 2025 a micro-entity is a company meeting two of: turnover up to £1 million, balance sheet total up to £500,000, no more than 10 employees; it can file simplified accounts under FRS 105 (gov.uk, micro-entities, small and dormant companies). A small company (two of: turnover up to £15 million, balance sheet up to £7.5 million, up to 50 employees) files under FRS 102 Section 1A. Send your trial balance or software access and the bank statements, and I prepare and file both within ten working days.

Option Price For Against
Do it yourself (Companies House and HMRC online) £0 in fees Free Many hours, easy to miss disclosures, no Corporation Tax planning
Typical accountancy firm £600 to £1,500 Personal review Often tied to a monthly retainer; fuller accounts than a micro-entity needs
BlackpeakCFO £495 / £995 Right framework (FRS 105 or 102 1A), 10-day turnaround, prepared by a chartered management accountant, no retainer Companies above the small-company limits need full FRS 102 accounts and usually an audit, which I do not provide

Questions people ask

What are the micro-entity and small company thresholds?

For financial years beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a micro-entity meets two of: turnover up to £1 million, balance sheet total up to £500,000, no more than 10 employees. A small company meets two of: turnover up to £15 million, balance sheet total up to £7.5 million, no more than 50 employees. Source: gov.uk, Prepare annual accounts for a private limited company.

Does the £495 include the Companies House filing fee?

There is no Companies House fee for filing annual accounts, and HMRC charges nothing for a CT600. The only Companies House fee each year is the £50 for the confirmation statement, which is a separate filing. So £495 is the whole cost for a micro-entity.

Can you do my personal Self Assessment as well?

Yes. The director's Self Assessment return is £195, filed from the same records, so salary and dividends agree between the company accounts and your personal return.

What if my books are not up to date?

The accounts need a reconciled year. A bookkeeping catch-up is £495 for three months or £995 for a full year, quoted and fixed before the accounts work starts, and if the accounts are already overdue at Companies House the accounts overdue page explains the penalties and what to do first.

Do you claim R&D tax relief?

I do not prepare R&D claims. If you have qualifying R&D, I supply the figures and working papers your R&D adviser needs and reflect the claim in the CT600.
