Why directors choose a fixed-fee chartered management accountant

Chartered, and the person who does the work

ACMA CGMA is a full chartered designation from CIMA. There is no junior layer and no offshore team: the person who reads your email prepares your accounts.

Fixed price means fixed price

No hourly meter and no "additional work" invoices. Every service has a published price. If your work is more complex than the standard scope, you get the difference in writing before I start.

Twenty-four years in finance, seven of them running an SME group's finances

Stuart was Group Finance Director for a portfolio of small and mid-sized businesses under private ownership in London from 2017 to 2024, after roles at Arle Capital Partners and Bancroft Private Equity and earlier fund accounting at Citigroup Edinburgh and ABN AMRO Mellon. He knows what the year-end looks like from the director's side of the table.

Minimal meetings

An onboarding form, email, and recorded walkthroughs of anything that needs explaining. You can have a call whenever you want one; it is never the price of entry.

Questions directors ask

I am a director of a small limited company. What do I actually need each year?

The legal minimum for a UK limited company is: a confirmation statement to Companies House; annual accounts to Companies House; a CT600 Corporation Tax return to HMRC; VAT returns if your taxable turnover is over £90,000; PAYE if you pay anyone a salary, including yourself; and a personal Self Assessment return if you take dividends or have other untaxed income. The fixed prices here cover each of those: micro-entity accounts and CT600 £495, confirmation statement £149 plus the £50 Companies House fee, MTD VAT £99 a quarter, payroll from £29 a month plus £4 per employee, Self Assessment £195.

What does a fixed fee accountant cost for a limited company?

At BlackpeakCFO the yearly filings for a micro-entity come to £495 for the accounts and CT600 plus £149 and the £50 Companies House fee for the confirmation statement. Add £99 a quarter if VAT-registered, payroll from £29 a month plus £4 per employee, and £195 for the director's Self Assessment. Monthly bookkeeping with management accounts is from £295 a month if you want the books kept and read every month. Every price excludes VAT and is agreed in writing before work starts.

How does fixed price work if my situation is more complex?

The published prices are for standard work, and standard is defined for each service: for example, micro-entity accounts at £495 assume one company, one bank account, one or two directors and reconciled books. If your situation goes beyond that (several currencies, a group, several revenue streams, a tangled director's loan account), I quote the difference in writing before starting. No surprise invoices.

Are you a chartered accountant (ACA, ACCA, ICAS)?

I am a chartered management accountant: ACMA CGMA, a member of CIMA since 2013, with the CGMA designation issued jointly by CIMA and the AICPA. It is a different chartered body from ICAEW (ACA), ACCA or ICAS, with its own examinations and continuing professional development. I am not a registered auditor and cannot sign statutory audit opinions; a company that needs an audit (for financial years beginning on or after 6 April 2025, broadly one exceeding two of: £15 million turnover, £7.5 million balance sheet, 50 employees) needs an audit firm, and I prepare what they ask for.

Can you replace my existing accountant?

Yes. I request professional clearance and your records from your current accountant, you authorise me with HMRC and Companies House through the standard online process, and the work continues from a clean baseline. The switch accountant page explains each step. Switching itself costs nothing; you pay only the fixed prices for the services you choose.

What accounting software do you use?

Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage Business Cloud and FreeAgent, as they are. If you are on spreadsheets, moving onto one of them is a separate fixed-price accounting system migration from £995, reconciled to the penny before you switch.

How do I pay?

By bank transfer to the UK account details on the invoice. One-off services are invoiced on engagement; monthly fees (bookkeeping, payroll, dashboard refreshes) are invoiced monthly in advance by standing order or Direct Debit.

How quickly can you take me on?

Most limited-company onboardings complete within two weeks: a fixed quote by email within one working day of your form, a signed letter of engagement, your authorisation of me as agent with HMRC and Companies House (HMRC's part can take about a week to process), access to your accounting software, and work starts. No call is needed; a recorded walkthrough replaces the training session.
